What fruit/plant/veg are the following?
We found these specimens at Tanah Rimba and Bukit Tinggi Market. Your help in identifying them will bring good karma to you for enlightening many other netizens.
Specimen A - Fruit. Looks like a yellow brinjal/persimmon. Tastes similar to a mildly sweet persimmon. Texture; smooth creamy/ over ripe persimmon. Size; a little bigger than a large orange.

Specimen D - Fruit. Again, i should have plucked one home to dissect!
This one is self explanatory... Binjai(Mangifera caesia). Saw this at a PLUS Highway stop. Initially thought it was another name for the ciku fruit but apparently its different fruit altogether. A sweet sour white flesh mango which is indigenous to Borneo according to Wiki and another blog. Size; a really large ciku! I didn't think about buying some for tasting until while typing this post.
There is also the wild mango variety called quinine which looks very similar to your supermarket mangoes, usually green and emits extra pungent mango scent when ripe. Usually very sweet and fibrous. I have a picture of it from a village orchard but can't seem to locate it for this post.

Oh my goodness - so many alien looking fruit! And to think they are (I guess) all native to Malaysia....

I don't care is specimen A is a cross breed of whatever and whatever...genetically engineered fruit is so yummy! Should have bought more of it.
Wonder what other fruits would taste good together...hmmm pineapple+watermelon, mango+orange, banana+cocoa...hehehe
i just read recently PM Najid officiating some agricultural event and was featurd 'admiring' some giant guava (the size of a pillow). It was freaky. ....cloudy with a chance of guava more like it
I thought Specimen A is a ciku from the looks and description of it.
Oh, that fruit you're refering to, we have one growing back home (am from Sibu) in the backyard. It's called "kui nin" (in Foochow), not related to quinine the malaria medication.
It's a huge tree that grows high up and the fruit is quite tasty once you've aquired a taste for it.
It's not sweet like mangos but it's tart and sour and has a nice smell to it.
didja all go to bt tinggi again? how come i havent seen any of these fruit except the non edible one? the first one looks fascinating. or was it from a previous trip?

The first one is called Breast Milk Fruit/Vu Sua by the Vietnamese. Ate some of them there for desserts and was yummy. Google 'Vu Sua' and see. The rest beats me.

From the fruit and leaves, Specimen C is probably a cousn of the fig. Did you manage to view the insides of the fruit? Figs sld hv red flesh.

first fruit looks persimmonish to me. LOL
Specimen C is most likely to be what the chinese called 'pei pa go'. it has hairy yellow skin and a black pit. It is very nice to eat fresh minus the skin. Had it when i was little in my grandpa's farm.
i am always waiting for the answer like the rest. so we are truly 1Malaysia right? :P

WW: Thanks for identifying Specimen A! I don't know why they also call Vu Sua a "Star Apple". Citrus fruits also look like star when cut laterally. The one we had, you couldnt cut laterally because of the seed. Google images came up with various colors of the fruit. Some were purple!

Specimen 3 may be "Loquat" originating from Japan and China a friend told me:)
