Whistle while you work... Restoran Wong Kee

"If you think anything gets ME out of bed and behind the 'CHUM-PAN'(chopping block) before 1230 hours, you have got to be joking."

Says the See-Fu (chef) , "Get in-line brother.. it's going to take a while"...

"I take my own sweet time, because.. I CAN."

(oh,whistle while you work,

Hitler is a jerk,

Mussolini bit his weeny,

now it doesn't work..

dum-dee-dum..

sung to the tune of "whistle while you work") :P

So, let's see... too early and you have to wait. Too late and the Siew Yoke is all gone. That is how crazy people are about the Roasted Pork here.

And rightly so because... it's good. Real good.

A thin layer of crisp.

A sweet layer of white meat.

A staggered layering of soft fat.

This crazy, little, Siew Yoke dish makes the wait worthwhile, every single time.

However, we still feel the need to complain.

Not about the quality of the Siew Yoke, which is still world-class.

The price really killed us. 4-5 short slabs of roasted pork, 1/4 chicken, 2 pax normal
Char Siew(BBQ Pork) & 5-6 drinks set us back by RM93! holy pig!

Also, while the Siew Yoke is excellent, they use way too much salt and MSG - which is weird because, if one has a meat as succulent and sweet as pork, why does one need to add more artificial flavouring?

U go ask the Chef. (I'd rather keep my head on, thanks.)

It's still one of my favourite siew yoke shops. But have to go on a weekend coz the one hour lunch break on weekdays aint enuff considering the long wait. Saturday not so busy.

As much as I like Wong Kee's siew yoke, I refuse to put up with his bad attitude. Kum Kee's siew yoke in Kuchai Lama is good (less fatty too).

Yeah, he is kinda cocky esp with his awards and political links. We once counted the layers of fat b4 we popped it into our mouths - scary number but it melted away when we ate it.

btw, can you email me at boo_liciouskl@yahoo.com? Got something to ask you. Thanks.

Friends call the place Datuk Siewyoke. Guess that sums up the attitude & price. No, I've not been yet. Think I'm scared.

Wow..look at the layer of fats on the siu yuk. I always wanted to buy that kind of cut at the market but i guess all the good ones are supplied to restaurants.
