Langkawi
The things I like best about Langkawi Island are..

That big, handsome eagle that watches over the Island at Dataran Lang/ Langkawi Eagle Square..

The Cheap, cheap local food on every street corner...

The cute booze displays in Kuah Town, alcohol haven...

Did I say, the cheap, cheap booze in Kuah Town, alcohol haven;) ....

The fresh seafood ...

The wide selection of food including Russian(!) at Harbour Park..

The newest of the 5star hotels - The Four Seasons (* this photo from here)

Inspired by Alhambra Palace in Spain, with Moorish details in a Malay 'kampung' or village setting, with pavilions and villas blending Asian, Indian and Arabic influences...

reflective of the natural surroundings, with neutral earth tones weaved within a textured setting of exotic woods, stones and fabrics ..

swanky vibrant colors and modern pool tables, woven wooden screens, handcrafted hanging mirrors, bubble-gum coloured glass lamps,

burnished steel light fittings, massive hanging bells with intricate motif and carvings, walking through the Four Seasons makes me feel like I am floating through an infinite dreamscape of a non-physical dimension.

Finally, the thing I like best about Langkawi is,

my favourite hotel to stay at on Langkawi, though old.. the Datai..!

I like the Datai for the simple fact that it reminds me of a silent retreat. Everything is constructed around an amphitheatre of virgin tropical rainforest whose resident birdlife and monkeys (cumi & ciki!) provide the only external intrusion! This place totally blends into its natural unspoilt surroundings.
There is a very long, deliberate walk to the beach, forcing you to appreciate the lush green hills even more. I like taking the slow walk to the beach barefoot.

Last but not least, the thing I like best about Langkawi are its gorgeous sunsets.
Pink hues take over the sky at sunset and the only thing missing is a loved one...
...and those are the things, I like best about Langkawi Island!
