Nadeje Patisserie on a Monday Morning.

Recently Updated4

I love my colleagues! Who takes the trouble to lug a whole 1.5 kg cake, ice packed, all the way from Malacca, back to the office, to present his co-workers with a gorgeous Monday morning breakfast treat. WHO?

My colleague la. That's who:P
Bless his generous soul.

He totally brightened up our boring, hazy, sullen Monday morning, he did!

Mille crêpe is a French cake made of many crêpe layers. Mille (mil) means 'a thousand', implying the many layers of crêpe.

One thousand layers of JOY if you ask me.

Off the beaten-path Ayer Keroh Malacca

What does Ayer Keroh have apart from,

New Folder (2)4
CHENDOL,

New Folder (2)2
BAO,

New Folder (2)3
and RM2.50 Chicken rice?
(Cumi: Really well prepared roast & boiled chicken! Moist and flavourful with minimal salt. Possibly even better than the best, at dirt cheap prices! - compared to KL that is)

Exhilarating Off-Road adventure!

This crazy little ride can get pretty intense .. tearing up steep terrain, stirring up dust, mud and leaves as you learn to negotiate sharp turns, uneven gravel grounds and deep slopes. By the end of this mad, bumpy ride you may just feel yourself swaying a little but the sweat is worth it! It's excellent and even a little nerve-wrecking especially as the biggest dip comes into view. What goes up, has to come down right .. yikes! Just take a deep breath and go for it... I did and lived to tell the tale .. haha :P

This wheel spinning adventure is created by Chang Chong Onn, a friendly and humble family man who started a mini go-kart circuit because of his passion for speed, fast 'toys' and fast action martial arts. This cool dude represented Malaysia in numerous International Tae Kwon Do competitions (back when he was half his current size... erm, even he admits:P) and has travelled as far as Europe to show off his death defying stunts which include, flying kicks, chopping bricks and flying (body, mind and soul) over speeding bikes. Now if that's not living your passion, I don't know what is! Today Chang runs a go-kart track complete with pocket bikes, ATV/Quad and buggy rides. For you thrill seekers out there, the jungle is way more fun and challenging than the tracks, as I soon found out! You have to be 16 and above to participate but passengers for the buggy may be younger.

New Folder (2)1

However, have no fear..! Kiddos will not be disappointed with the go-kart track as that offers children's mini version of the quad bikes. Talk about making your parents proud of the dare-devil in you (in safe surroundings, of course!) So after a crazy day out in the sun eating chendol, bao and 2.50 chicken rice, I now have a completely different impression of Ayer Keroh. It currently ranks way up there as one of my favourite (made in Malaysia) adventure places for sure!

Great BALLS of Chicken

DSC09998
It was a really zippy day trip to go visit a friend in Melaka.. we only had time to dash into Melaka town, have lunch, and dash back to KL!

Eventhough the word on the street is that the Chicken Rice has dropped in standard in Melaka, I am still a SUCKER for The Chicken rice Ball.. so what to do.. I dragged my colleagues along to eat with me that sunny afternoon!
DSC00001
What? Closed?! My favourite shop had it's shiny shutters closed for the day. What bad luck. Again its debatable on the quality of the Chicken rice here at my favourite stall.. but I DON'T CARE... I still want to eat here every time I come! lol

DSC00003
Oh fine. Since we really didn't have much time, just down the road on Jonker was 'the other' chicken rice place.
Since they also serve Assam fish there, I was game to check it out.
DSC00005
Hoe Kee Chicken Rice on Jalan Hang Jebat!
DSC00009
Old fashion deco and a high ceiling gave the place a nice, airy feel, even on that hot afternoon.
DSC00012
Here comes the food.
DSC00013
Assam Fish - RM26.00

Not bad but the fish was overcooked. I personally would have preferred it MORE sour and spicy.
5/10
DSC00015
Chicken Rice Balls - RM3.00

The Chicken rice balls! Erm... looking at the balls.. not greasy enough.. and certainly not tasty enough. They say that the taste is enhanced by the rolling of the rice(by hand).. don't ask why.. the answer may turn your stomach;P Obviously, judging from the lack of taste.. this roller's hands were pretty clean... (aiiyo, don't know whether to laugh or cry.. haha)

I gave the balls a 4/10.
DSC00016
Chicken - RM8.00

The Chicken was tough and rubbery. So sad... the meal was pretty average.
It is true though what people say about the deterioration of Melaka's standards in food. Even the Nyonya Food on my last trip to Melaka was a let down...

Anyone from Malacca want to tell me where I should go to eat? (Oh, and all invitations to eat at your house are more than welcome... haha) We'll bring the beer!

Bill for 3 persons: RM51.00

One thousand layers of YUM

DSC05637
I am totally GOB-SMACKED that graffiti like THIS , exists in Malacca? Get out of here!
DSC05636

Unreal! It's like 3 in the afternoon, and I am standing under the blazing sun staring at this gorgeous, gorgeous piece of art for like the longest time...
Takes my colleagues a good 10 minutes to yank me back into the cool of the patisserie ...

We'v heard GOOD, good things about Nadeje ... pronounced Nah- JAY...

Apparently the Czech word Naděje, means HOPE!

And this place specializes in non other than that yummie french dessert, crêpe mille...

DSC05632
The owner, Nozomi is this petite Japanese lady. The most unusual beverages e.g. Calpis (lactic acid drink), Strawberry Vinegar Soda, Berry berry tea and paper dripped coffee are amongst the innovative drinks on the menu. What makes them so special is that their drinks are all home made, no artificial flavouring and made from fresh ingredients. The tea leaves are imported from Japan - the pastes and tea leaves are prepared by Nozomi herself!

Hmmm... so wot do we have here.... FRENCH meets CZECH meets JAPANESE... ! Far out :P

DSC05612
Here is the crepe mille in its LUSH, un-cut form. Totally 100% handmade! As "Mille" ("mil") means "a thousand," so it goes... a thousand layers of crêpe!!! Not only that, add a thousand layers of cream interspaced with a thousand layers of crêpe...and viola... you get a killer sensational dessert.. guaranteed to HIT THE SPOT!

DSC05629
SEE WOT I MEAN?!

DSC05630
Oh.. I heard the original BAKER, has opened shop in JB... must go check it out, when I am in that part of town;)

Dessert:8/10
Service: A bit blur the waiters... couldn't even tell me who the owner was.. or if the cakes were handmade or machine made... sad.
Price:RM8.50 per slice, RM62 per cake (they ice pack it for you if you need to take it back to KL or wherever u come from)

Jongker Street Grub

DSC05588 This is (one part of) Jongker Street...

And this is where I met Madam Lwee... DSC05589

She proudly saunters over and tells me, "That's ME..!" in the photo.. and that their popiah, laksa business has been going strong for the past 13 years...
DSC05591 DSC05593

DSC05601 DSC05595

Their secret?? ... Herein lies the brilliance of this dish... HUGE, huge chunks of "chee-yau char" (deep fried pork fat), inserted into the heart of the popiah..
biting into one has me quaking at the knees... man.. talk about Don't-Mess-with-Me popiah.. damn shiok!
The nonya laksa is good too. Served in small stainless steal bowls, they are like lil power packed mouthfuls of, what can only be described as "knock your socks off" flavour...
Mmmmm, mdm lwee... your bowls are TOO SMALL la...!

DSC05603Be sure u arrive on the right day. Or else NO LAKSA !
Food:7/10
Price: Cheap
Service: personal touch from Mdm Lwee.. wot more can u ask for.. ?

a story about 9 storeys...

What is the significance of this old, run-down, 9 storey flat on Jalan Bendahara Malacca, you say...?
Introducing "Kau-lau"... or 9 Storey flat... more notoriously known for suicides than any other place in Malacca... so say-eth my Malaccan colleagues, on my recent visit.

THE FOLLOWING NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE IDENTITIES OF THE INDIVIDUALS ;P

Says Robert/colleague : " Ya la, we have 15 storey buildings also wat ... but they dowan to jump. Still come to 9 storey flat to jump... (why like dat)...?!"

Says Kar Wai/other colleague: " Ya man... better be careful where u park your car... otherwise.. end up hor, no car...!"

DSC05569i

Anyway, we came here not for sightings of flyin EVEL KNIEVELs, but rather for charsiew fan and cheong... my fav! (bbq pork rice with intestine)

DSC05572 DSC05576
DSC05585 DSC05586

Alas! They didn't have that silky-smooth, voluptuously taut intestine that my colleague was raving on about... ceh.. why like dat..

Nevermind, the SEMI TRANSLUCENT charsiew will do just fine. I love the way you can see thru the charsiew fat hanging in the window... casts everything in a gorgeous, greasy red hue... So wicked. so yum.

;P

Food:7/10

Price: low end
