Queen's Restaurant Cheras

17012009019
Food fit for the Queen at Restoran Queen, Cheras! LOL...
OK, the surroundings are hardly fit for the Queen (but the Queen of DSLR can la.. :P)

DSC09362
Do not look too closely at your surroundings. Best focus of the juicy stick of satay and the sterile looking styrofoam bowls of sauce. Oh yea, the individual bowls can really give one a false sense of hygienic security... truly. If ignorance is bliss, I'll just stay ignorant for a while longer, thank you.

DSC09356
Sizzling hot, dancing wings.. I swear mine was popping and moving on the plate. The sizzling whispers from the oily, glistening, caramelized body, was the wing.. calling my name.. "Eat me Ciki!"

DSC09354
Love me.. love me whole.
"I bleed for you... I pour out my GUTS to you.. I love you from the depths of my intestine, my spleen. Will you not take me for all that I am?!" :P

"Oh shut up. Say a pray."

Devour.

DSC09353
They are not stingy with their porky bits. At RM6.00 you can feed an army with this stuff.

17012009023
Check from time to time that you back-side is still intact. The gust of wind is not natural. It is in fact the motorcars zooming by at neck breaking speed as they try to run the motorcyclist over.

Finish up and get out quick before you lose a cheek. Butt cheek.

Cao Cao Catastrophe

DSC02273
We've been down on our luck.. or rather pretty bad with our timing.
This is the 1st time in 2009 that we have managed to eat at CAO CAO lamb because it has been close all 3 times we swung by here for makan.
How do you find this place.. ? It's easy - find FGA just off old klang road and you find Cao Cao Lamb:)

DSC02271
Hmmm.. someone should have a word with the wantan mee stall about wasting so much water.
(OK, so I sent Cumi coz I don't know how to dodge/throw a punch... kidding, kidding... :P)
DSC02282
The smell is intoxicating! The sultry, lascivious smell of red meat on the grill, cacooned in cloying fumes of seared animal fat, hit my nostrils and make my toes curl.
They take 20 minutes to serve me but I feel it's all worth it :)

DSC02288
Hmmm, that's a little strange. The portions use to be a lot bigger for RM8.50 ... (actually RM7.00 not too long ago)

DSC02293
Digging into my Cao Cao lamb... I am even more dismayed to find that 60% of the lamb is BONE!
Very disappointing for the amount of money paid for my hunk of meat I tell ya. Might as well eat at some of the Western joints in PJ where at least you get less bone on your lamb and even chips and veges on the side!
DSC02297
The Satay here saves the day! Lean Chicken (breast meat) and a good dollop of greasy peanut sauce and I've already (half) forgotten about my lamb... :P

Satay:6/10

Restoran New Yew Sang Kelana Jaya

DSC01301
Restoran New Yew Sang at Kelana Jaya is a great place to get a fast, cheap meal. This place is actually rather famous for its steamed soups and individually steamed rice in chinese porcelain bowls with delicious "saucy" toppings of chicken, pork, chinese sausage, etc. (you name it.. ) placed on top of the rice and served at only approximately RM5. Not bad at all but we decided to try out what the other vendors were selling today.

Cumi had the Sarawak Laksa/Kolo Mee. The texture of the noodle was pretty decent. Not so thin that it could not imbibe the sauce. Not so thick that it felt overly starchy. Just right.. and the noodle maintained its springy nature throughout the meal. Overall, we found the Sarawak Mee here thoroughly satisfying - it had a light taste with a rich pork aroma. Delicious. Highly recommended.

DSC01306
New Yew Sang is also a place you can get Lui Char Fan (vegetarian). This is 'thunder tea rice' and aptly named so, because the amount of noise the lady makes whacking, chopping, cutting leaves, nuts etc. etc. is truly 'thunderous'. We did not try this so we do not know how good it is, but the lady's shop is plastered with news paper cuttings on, well.. erm.. herself and her thunder tea rice ;P

Me being my usual ravenous self, also had the curry laksa and SHARED another Fried Mee Jawa with Cumi.
The curry laksa was lousy. Don't eat this.

DSC01294

The Fried Mee Jawa was scrumptious, plus the egg that came with it was huge! I fought for the YOLK... & won! (evil grin)

This place is located behind Giant supermarket in Kelana Jaya. Happy hunting!

water convolvulus is not a bad word :P

<span class=
It's Queen's Park again.. but this time, by night! On the corner of Jalan Peel and Jalan Shelley, this place is definitely great for lunch... but more importantly, the night-time here, is just CRAZY with activity!

<span class=
Just look at that. The entire street (and i mean literally on the street, where you can touch the traffic with your butt, or the feel the wind against your shorts, where you sit) is packed to the rafters with people. It's 9pm, and things are just warming up.

Apart form a fantastic variety of hawker-fare to chose from, e.g. kangkung yau-yee (water Convolvulus with squid), fried noodles, pig stomach soup etc, etc, people travel far and wide to eat the famous Ah Wah Grill Wings (yup, the one that Jalan Ah Lor made famous) and also the blistering but succulent SATAY!

Just to digress.. am I the only one who cracks up everytime she hears the english word for kangkung.. ?! Farnee.

<span class=
That's mah man... sataying the Satay!

You can feel the heat from 2 meters away... it's that hot. Blistering.

<span class=
Ah.. sweet.

That is Beef you see on the far end, then chicken, then mutton. The mutton is amazing - more gamy than the beef and could possibly be called, an acquired taste.. but oh, so good:D This mutton satay is definitely harsher than the normal nasi kandar mutton as it has no sauce to mask its taste. However, 3 sticks into the eating and you really get the hang of it. Embrace the stinkiness, oh yea!

<span class=
We love the peanut sauce here. We love the fact that it is so hygienically served in individual Styrofoam bowls and is less oily(ok lah, slightly less) and sweet, than other peanut sauces.
If you have visitors from abroad, bring them here. They will be impressed.. (erm, as long as they don't look in the gutter, next to where they sit, that is.. hurhur.. :P)

At approximately 60 cents per stick.. a steal!

Check it out if you are in the area.

New World Park Penang

DSC07458
Just when you thought you could eat no more.... someone yells... NEW WORLD PARK!

DSC07460
A relatively new food court.. we were skeptical about the food here..

DSC07464
No matter.. we soon spotted some snacks we wanted to sink out teeth into...

DSC07468
Wow! The Carrot cake here was really fantastic! Every mouthful was baby shrimp! None of that fake, watered down yam cake you sometimes get. This was the real deal. And chucks of yam to boot. Very, very good.

DSC07469
Everything that wobbles! This Bah-Chang encompasses all that we believe a BAH CHANG should encompass! lol.
From the word go, the pork fat in this dish will bowl you over... Soft and succulent and oozing with FAT. Just the way we like our decadent lunchtime snack.

DSC07470
The Chai kuey was bursting at the seems and could not be contained! ... be it the turnip or the "kau choy"... it was Goooooood!

DSC07473
The ice kacang... 10X better than lorong selamat's...
DSC07475
The satay!

gawd... what can we say... this food court was much better than the hawker food we had tried so far... amazing but true..

we will be back!
.
.
.

DSC07385

The view from our G hotel window!

Hmmmmm... enough of hawker... NIGHT 2 and already saturated with road-side food. What shall we have for dinner...?

We decided... Japanese! At G hotel... sounded like the obvious choice.. innit?
.
.
.

Everything looked so good!

Erm, but, considering how marvellous the food looked... it was really so-so... Be it wagyu beef, salmon eggs or sashimi... we found this place to be over-priced and pretty average...

DSC07397
From the soft shell carb...
DSC07405
to the seasonal "urchin"...
the rolls.. to the shishamo...

A lot of the food, was at best, average.

DSC07417

Finally the saving grace.. the Ox tongue! This was shear and sweet!

DSC07422

Oh well, 1st and last time we eat here. The bill was a whopping RM900. Later we found out that Miraku is just a branch of Sushi King.. YIKES! Not even a G hotel restaurant! holy smokes.. we just got conned into paying for high class sushi king.. !

Never again... lol :P
