Queen's Restaurant Cheras

17012009019
Food fit for the Queen at Restoran Queen, Cheras! LOL...
OK, the surroundings are hardly fit for the Queen (but the Queen of DSLR can la.. :P)

Do not look too closely at your surroundings. Best focus of the juicy stick of satay and the sterile looking styrofoam bowls of sauce. Oh yea, the individual bowls can really give one a false sense of hygienic security... truly. If ignorance is bliss, I'll just stay ignorant for a while longer, thank you.

Sizzling hot, dancing wings.. I swear mine was popping and moving on the plate. The sizzling whispers from the oily, glistening, caramelized body, was the wing.. calling my name.. "Eat me Ciki!"

Love me.. love me whole.
"I bleed for you... I pour out my GUTS to you.. I love you from the depths of my intestine, my spleen. Will you not take me for all that I am?!" :P

"Oh shut up. Say a pray."

Devour.

They are not stingy with their porky bits. At RM6.00 you can feed an army with this stuff.

Check from time to time that you back-side is still intact. The gust of wind is not natural. It is in fact the motorcars zooming by at neck breaking speed as they try to run the motorcyclist over.

Finish up and get out quick before you lose a cheek. Butt cheek.

Where Jalan Shelley and Jalan Peel intersect,
(A very old part of KL town).

water convolvulus is not a bad word :P

<span class=
It's Queen's Park again.. but this time, by night! On the corner of Jalan Peel and Jalan Shelley, this place is definitely great for lunch... but more importantly, the night-time here, is just CRAZY with activity!

<span class=
Just look at that. The entire street (and i mean literally on the street, where you can touch the traffic with your butt, or the feel the wind against your shorts, where you sit) is packed to the rafters with people. It's 9pm, and things are just warming up.

Apart form a fantastic variety of hawker-fare to chose from, e.g. kangkung yau-yee (water Convolvulus with squid), fried noodles, pig stomach soup etc, etc, people travel far and wide to eat the famous Ah Wah Grill Wings (yup, the one that Jalan Ah Lor made famous) and also the blistering but succulent SATAY!

Just to digress.. am I the only one who cracks up everytime she hears the english word for kangkung.. ?! Farnee.

<span class=
That's mah man... sataying the Satay!

You can feel the heat from 2 meters away... it's that hot. Blistering.

<span class=
Ah.. sweet.

That is Beef you see on the far end, then chicken, then mutton. The mutton is amazing - more gamy than the beef and could possibly be called, an acquired taste.. but oh, so good:D This mutton satay is definitely harsher than the normal nasi kandar mutton as it has no sauce to mask its taste. However, 3 sticks into the eating and you really get the hang of it. Embrace the stinkiness, oh yea!

<span class=
We love the peanut sauce here. We love the fact that it is so hygienically served in individual Styrofoam bowls and is less oily(ok lah, slightly less) and sweet, than other peanut sauces.
If you have visitors from abroad, bring them here. They will be impressed.. (erm, as long as they don't look in the gutter, next to where they sit, that is.. hurhur.. :P)

At approximately 60 cents per stick.. a steal!

Check it out if you are in the area.

My bowl runneth over

It's Sunday! Where do we go for a good wallop session after church... hmmmm......

<span class=
When we 1st saw Queen's Park, once upon a time, many-many moons ago, we were pretty excited. Queen’s Park is located on the corner of where Jalan Shelley and Jalan Peel intersect (a really OLD part of KL town!) and has an unusual open-air concept that distinguishes itself from the traditional shopping malls or retail outlets in KL.

Unfortunately though, this place has never quite picked up. I remember a year or so ago, they even had open-air concerts for local talents of Malaysia to strut their stuff. Even as things were picking up, the crowd began to dwindle insidiously. I guess this sort of retail concept is no rival for bigger shopping malls such as MidValley Megamall with more ‘eye-candy’ to offer in a better more strategic location.

Anyway, we like Queen’s park, if nothing more than to just browse the MNG and Esprit Factory Outlets… however, dwindling or not, the more important fact is that, it is situated directly across from Carrefour and a corner coffee shop which we love to frequent!
<span class=

I have heard of wall-to-wall carpeting.. but this looks like wall-to-wall eating! Those little yellow signs and those hungry patrons packing this old coffee-shop tight, with hardly any breathing space, tell us that we have arrived:D
.
.
.
So, what's good here?
.
.

At RM4.00 only....
<span class=
THIS!
Gosh, the bowl of Har-Mee (Prawn Mee) is so huge, it's literally spilling out of the bowl. And the prawns they give you are big too (not just the tiny dried shrimp, but the fresh bigger ones). Also, not just one or two, but FOUR prawns!
And not just prawn, good old fashion sotong(squid) too;D
<span class=
See? I kid you not...

When my parent's visit, it's a real EAT-FEST! Like, we also put away,

<span class=
THIS (curry mee at RM4.50)
.
.

<span class=
...this which is a little sweet for me, but which the husband loves, (mee rojak RM4.00)
.
.
and,
<span class=
THIS - the killer amazing Char-Kwey-Teow. (fried noodles). Extra SEE-HUM gives it one helluva kick - yummie! (ask the man not to cook the see-hum, but to put the raw see-hum on the piping hot noodle, and just fold it in!) That way the heat cooks the cockles .. but ever so slightly! Ooo yea.. the runnier the better! haha

Check out this makan place the next time you are in the area:D
