FAT!

Whipped Cream vs. Sugar.. the final round in the Heavy Weight Championship
Round 15

It all comes down to this: one round to crown the World Champion of Obesity. Fat (Whipped Cream), the longtime Champ, is clearly in trouble but still has enough points to win, thanks to its mid-fight dominance. But Sugar has owned the latter rounds thanks to heavy lobbying, effective marketing, deregulation, and public misconception. Fat was barely on his feet at the end of round 14 and his corner is working furiously to limit the damage. The question is, does Sugar's corner have one last trick up its sleeve?

And here we go . . .

FAT still manages to show some swagger, and comes out flashing heart disease as the number one killer, recently eclipsing lung disease and cigarettes—no slouch in the death department.
But Sugar barely flinches and counters with type II diabetes, the fastest growing illness in the world, that's almost single-handedly controlled by Sugar. It's like Ali's "anchor punch" against Liston and it sends The Champ sprawling.

Down goes Fat! Down goes Fat!

And I don't think that FAT will be rising from this one. Nope. Fat is out cold. The Hammer's reign is over. There's a new kid in town. Sugar is elated, dancing around the ring and pointing at the crowd, screaming, "I want YOU! I want YOU!"

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the NEW heavyweight champion of the obesity world: SUGAR!

"Pour some sugar on me Ooh, in the name of love - Def Leppard"

Just sayin.

Carcass lovers

My colleague is a vegetarian. She is often the butt of much ridicule - what to do.. they are picky eaters, high maintenance, self-righteous, overly sensitive... "Ee-yew...oh,i couldn't eat that... it's like... a CARCASS..!"

But vegetarians should rejoice in the good company they keep (well, except for Hitler). Here is a list of just some of the most famous vegetarians in history.

1. Leo Tolstoy: The famous Russian writer wrote several essays on the benefits of vegetarianism. You can read one here.

2. Voltaire

3. Adolf Hitler: Hitler practiced a vegetarianism created by Richard Wagner, which equated the future of Germany’s success with abstaining from meat.

4. Albert Einstein

5. Clint Eastwood: As a long-time animal rights activist, Eastwood has also been very outspoken against hunting and killing animals for sport.

6. Leonardo Da Vinci: Da Vinci used to buy caged birds from vendors at the market in order to set them free.

7. The Beatles

8. Dr. Dre

9. Buddha

10. Pythagoras: As well as giving us the Pythagorean theorem, Pythagoras gave us the Pythagoras diet, which laid the foundation for modern vegetarianism.

Poll:
Would you become a vegetarian, if not one already :) Leave a comment. Cheers

After all... we are what we eat... (oh, shuttup you grapefruit..:P)

the "indie rock" effect...

There's an old maxim out there that goes something like this - whenever someone asks you for your favourite places to eat, you never state your absolute favourite. The idea here is that you don't want the place to lose whatever nuances it may have due to increased popularity (haha!). Kinda like how, when an indie band goes mainstream, it either loses all /loses some aspect of it's old self that makes the experience different all together. Less "WOW" if you know what i mean.

So, instead of asking you what is your all time favourite place to eat, i shall ask "What is your all time, favourite dish" i.e. if you were on death row, and they offer you a last meal, what would that meal be?!

Please leave a comment. Then I will tell you mine... in a later post.

I don't mean nail, as in hammer...

Those of us who engage in consistent food reading/blogging/tasting, enjoy extolling the virtues of various foods and restaurants. Many of us have been moved by the skill and talents of various artisans throughout the world and have little difficulty in heaping praise on those we think deserve it.

There is a flip side to this. In order to find good food... stellar food, we have to sample a fair amount of it. This means, for every great place that we find, the odds are that we should bump into some place, less than acceptable/poor/bad. I don't mean poor, where the food is edible but uninspiring. I mean BAD, in the "holy cow! Woe be unto the Man who unknowingly steps into this wayward joint and eats from its kitchen,"... kind of way!

The worst restaurant I had ever had the misfortune of visiting, was a cafeteria in Wales. A simple big breakfast was quickly turned into the nightmare meal of my life, when the food got to my table, soft, lumpy and reeking of something organically stale/sick/putrified. Nevermind that... when I bit into the meal, which was soft and lumpy and reeky… my teeth hit a crunch, and I quickly spat it out. There sat a nice big piece of NAIL in the shiny palm of my hand. I don’t mean nail as in hammer, I mean nail as in phalanges. Calcium. What is that.. Toenail? Fingernail? Cow’s Hoof? I couldn’t be sure but whatever it was, we complained, paid and where out the door faster than a bolt of lightning. Thank God I didn’t suffer any ill effects later, from that meal. Needless to say we never went back to that restaurant again !

What was the worst meal from a restaurant that you have had? Leave a comment below.
