Four, tres, two, uno

Listen up ya'll, Cuz this is it
The dough that I'm bangin' is de-li-cious

[Verse 1]
Angku-licious definition make them lil boys & gals go loco
They want my treasure so they get their pleasures from my mung beans
You can squeeze me, you can eat me
I'm very easy, I ain't meaty
I got reasons why I'm chewy
Trays of me just come and go like biscuits

[Hook 1]
Angku-licious (So delicious)
But I ain't fergalicious
And if you was suspicious
All that filling is sumptuous
I also got peanuts (mmmwwahhh)
That puts them boys & gals on shiok shiok
And they be lining down the alley just to watch what I got (four, tres, two, uno)

[Chorus]
So delicious (It's hot, hot)
So delicious (I put them boys on shiok shiok)

The Hummingbird from Kepong

Recently Updated28
Cumi & Ciki.. having Tongsui in Kepong, decide to call Hairyberry to join them for lunch.

Hairyberry, unable to join due to prior commitments, decides to send the Hummingbird instead to visit his friends, C&C.

DSC08414
Hairyberry, had recently been given the Hummingbird recipe by one Mr Fatboybakes and was eager to share the love. Anyway, you can also check out the real McCoy here.

Ciki: Hairy! How sweet of you! You shouldn't have..!

Hairy: Pfft.. what this simple thing.. ah, don't worry la Ciki, it was easy to whip up. No big deal.

Ciki: No honestly Hairy..., you shouldn't have!

Hairy: No big deal la ciki...

Ciki: NO HAIRY.. you shouldn't have sent it in a PLASTIC BAG la..
You got no tupperware ar? ROFL :P

(Too damn hilarious. This boy literally walks into the coffee shop in Kepong swinging a plastic bag of cake.. only possible with Hairyberry, I tell you..)

Recently Updated27
Anyway, horrific presentation aside, the cake was really pretty damn good!
Thick and heavy with ingredients, my nose was suddenly assaulted by the most delicious smell.

Sticking a piece of hummingbird in my mouth, I find it moist and flavorful with chopped pecans, crushed pineapple, and mashed bananas. It is frosted with a delicious cream cheese that knocks my socks off.

Thank you Hairyberry for your generosity! The cake was delicious;)

C & C, stuffed to the max with lunch , Tongsui and Hummingbird decide to go walk it off. We chance upon a nick-knack shop and decide to take a look.

DSC08425
Cumi, arsing around with the stuff they sell in the shop. He calls this his " I AM NOT AROUND" look, when I ask him to peel potatoes or help me clean the house.

Recently Updated26
This is Cumi's heavy duty costume for helping mum and me, peel potatoes for the family party. Honest, they sell these gloves with sharp, hard bits that take the skin off potatoes before you can even say, "suffering succotash!" (in the word of the famous cartoon character Sylvester).

Recently Updated25
Anyway, for being so obliging, I buy Cumi some MANWICH Sloppy Joe's .. just like his namesake:P (He actually eats this stuff - since uni days.. yarks!)

He deserves it for helping us peel potatoes. What a sweetie rite? ;)

Fook Kee at Kepong

DSC02440
The good Hawkers of Kepong, Aman Puri, take their Hawker-ing very seriously.
You see that blue makeshift canopy swaying in the wind? Its bleached color and tattered corners still provide excellent shade for the many customers who flock here for lunch, especially on the weekends.

DSC02442
Fook Kee has a multitude of Chinese Hawker cuisine for you to choose from and for me, it gets really confusing picking out something good to eat. I only have ONE stomach after all and I don't want to waste it on the wrong plate of lard.

So..

DSC02443
A quick power-walkabout (now u know why I train so hard.. ahem) and I soon decided on Szechuan noodles.

Wait a minute.. It's not Szechuan Noodle la.. it's Sez Chun Noodle!

DSC02444

Anyway, from the word go, I liked the look of the starting materials. The Noodle looked
long, thick, sticky and heavy with the promise of latent carbo.

The Deep Fried Pork chunks where still sizzling with heat and I could smell the pungent, heady aroma of its succulent juices from within its browned folds.

And then I saw the fresh plump chinese herbs and knew that this hawker meant business.

DSC02446

"Do you also want one?" I asked Cumi.

He said.. Urrrrhh (yes, in lazy husband slang)

Fine. I got him the dry version because I wanted the soup.

DSC02448
The soup noodle was great! The dry one was OK as well but of course the small herbal soup on the side was not enough.

All I can say is ... GO EAT THIS!

For just RM4.50, there is soooooo much meat, herbs, noodle, flavour.. that it's really mind boggling. No need for MSG - all the sweetness comes from the food. It's been a month since we ate there. I really hope that in this time, they have not compromised or cut back on their ingredients. In a time where sub-standard food is rearing its ugly head more and more, Sez Chun Noodle is a martyr, a hero, a STAR. Please go try it.

DSC02453
One thing about the Fook Kee Empire.. it's everywhere.
We walk down the road we see Fook Kee..

DSC02451
Futher along... Fook Kee,

DSC02457
Turn the corner... Fook Kee!

DSC02459
We this sign on the corner of the road. "Not allowed to sell food in parking area".

DSC02455
Who cares?! Not him .. obviously.

DSC02456
Nor him..:P
We buy kacang puteh from the Kacang puteh man because it's so cheap (RM3 for 2 packets or something like that) and some Malay Yau Char Kwai. Both good.

DSC02460
Finally we stop for dessert at one of the many dessert joints along that same stretch ..
I scratch my head because I am unfamiliar with the taste of this particular jello.

"Oh, this is jello without Vodka", announces Cumi.

No wonder I didn't recognise it.

Fitou at Desa Park City

DSC02238
This place looks like a dream!

Another place I always wanted to check out for lunch, and today, we finally got to meander along the The Waterfront, at Desa Park City KL.

DSC02234 DSC02239
DSC02240 DSC02236
Desa Park City is a swanky, upmarket, gated, residential area that just screams, ... yuppie.
Everything from the landscaped gardens, to the uber cool shopping and eating area at the Waterfront makes you just want to loiter and waste time chatting over lunch /a hot mug of coffee/ a freezing pint of beer.

The only setback to this place really taking off, I foresee, might just be its location.

For anyone coming from the PJ side of town, the hefty RM1.60 toll/per way makes you think twice about venturing here for food.

On the other hand, the people of Kepong who are on the "correct" side of town, are so use to having cheap and good food so readily available that perhaps the 'poshness' of Desa park city does not pose enough of an attraction for them to eat here on a regular basis.

Well, how successful the waterfront turns out to be, still remains to be seen, but at the moment, things are still relatively quiet.

DSC02242
Fitou's promotion of Paella , a massive pan for 4 persons priced at RM70 is pretty reasonable. But looking around.. where was the crowd to share it...

DSC02246
A breathtaking view.. under the hot noonday sun, the heat is unbearable but I can imagine how gorgeously vast and serene this place might look by candlelight! (I plan to come back for dinner and drinks real soon;))

DSC02251
Nicoise Salad - RM19.00

This was pretty average. The tuna was a little gritty in texture but the overall taste was not bad. I like my egg with a slightly moist yellow centre(not well done) but this one was hard.

DSC02253 DSC02255
The mushroom Cappuccino - RM 12.00 and the Seafood Chowder - RM17.00

The soups were good. Value for money as you can see by the size of the mussels.

DSC02258
Iberico Aglio Olio - RM38.00
The promotion for the week was IBERICO. i.e. the pig!... and we just had to try it.

Hmmm, the pasta was pretty healthy. Not much salt was used(which is a good thing) making this dish light and almost weak (?) in taste . Not enough Porky oomph.. :(

DSC02262
Iberico Ribs - RM41.00
We ended up eating the RIBS with the pasta.. this was much better! The sauce from the ribs was sweet, strong and meaty. I liked the slightly caramelized texture of the ribs. However, RM41.00 for a few small slices of rib was really rather steep!

All in all, even though Fitou is not quite there yet in terms of food.. it has all the potential of becoming a really cool hangout place, and a good restaurant for your Mediterranean 'fix'. If nothing else, than Fitou is a charming little nook where you can enjoy a quiet evening over a warm meal and a cold beer, with your friends and/or loved ones.. !

My favourite activity on a hot saturday afternoon is watching international time FLY BY.

.
.
.

At STADT German Cuisine and Bistro we found the perfect place to satisfy all my favourite activities :)

DSC01837
Seafood Soup - RM7.90
The soup was excellent. A thick, robust savoury tomato base made fresh and infused with all the flavours of the ocean made a great appetite teaser. We were prepped for our mains.

DSC01838
The Pork Knuckle - RM38.90
Given the choice of Original vs. Honey glazed ,we went with the glaze version but were surprised to find the crust rather unsweetened. When asked, the waitress replied that the coating of sugar is added right at the end. Hmmmm.. we think someone might have forgotten the Honey (?)

DSC01847
First the skin. This was not bad at all. The skin had enough snap, crackle and pop, if you like, but the flavour could have been better.
Delving in, we found the flesh tough, dry and rather tasteless.

DSC01851
If not for the extra(and boy did we need plenty) brown sauce and honey sauce we ordered, the pork knuckle would have been too dry to swallow.

Having said that, the menu here at STADT is massive, and we only shared one Pork Knuckle because it was the Hefe and Dunkel that we came for really ;) We will definitely be back to try the other items.

So meanwhilst... "Geben sie mir ein bier... like now, please.." ;P

Krua Thai at Kepong

So... to fulfill that Thai food hankering in our souls.. we had to venture into Kepong territory the following day.

Krua Thai!

Authentic Thai Food mainly focusing on the Northern Thai style of cooking ... and to support this notion, apparently the owner says that the cooking ingredients as well as the COOKS, are imported from Thailand! How cute.. :D

Amongst the signature dishes here (which I couldn't wait to dig into) was the RAW prawn (Sashimi style) with special sauce and Chabai Burung/Chili Padi (baby killer-cathartic chilies).

DSC01576
Just look at the picture-perfect presentation! Another unexpected delight was the garnishing of bitter gourd that not only added a gorgeous color to the platter, but also lent an amazing taste to the prawn concoction.
The bitter gourd used was not overly bitter at all. Instead, it was crunchy, zesty and even a little sweet on the tastebuds. Really, really good.

DSC01578
The raw prawns were flayed to perfection and drenched in that special fish sauce that took away any remnants of undesirable raw after taste. Don't you just love the way the Thais try to incorporate into their dishes, every sensory stimulation imaginable to the palate, such as sweet, bitter, salty, sour and spicy?
I do. I love it.

DSC01581
Well executed I thought.. and eventhough I ate the whole plate by myself (Cumi is allergic to prawns), I didn't get the runs at all ;P

DSC01568
The mango salad was a surprise too. Normally, my past experience eating this salad has me anticipating an overwhelming fish sauce and dry shrimp taste that obscures the other lighter tasting ingredients of this healthy salad.

Here at Krua Thai again, they exceed our expectations. The fish sauce is muted to perfection lending just a slight base taste to the salad. This allows the zesty mango, the crunchy peanuts, shrimp and even some lightly desiccated coconut taste to come shining through.

I didn't know such a simple dish could create so many pleasurable sensations in my mouth!
Excellent :D

DSC01553

Moving on.. time for the slow burn.
DSC01558

The Tomyam... have it as spicy as you like it (we had ours off the Spice-O-Meter), goes perfectly with individually steamed Thai rice (sweeter, stickier.. yummier than local rice). Wash away the burn with coconut juice.. and together with it, all your worries and cares of the world! lol

DSC01572
For a change we tried the fried Thai Kwey Teow instead of the Pad Thai. This also was good with a nice 'wok hei' taste to it. The noodle seemed to have retained its springiness and I wondered to myself, how I was ever going to retain my waistline;P

DSC01585
At Krua Thai, they have a good selection of Chili sauces as well, ranging from mild to fiery. On weekends they sometimes serve complimentary Thai desserts, so do swing by and try your luck.
We personally like the food at Krua Thai. It lives up to expectations.

Finally, EAT CHILI BURN FAT says one study... so on that happy note, we end this blog!
