Paradiso and our favourite Baklava
As if we weren't spoilt enough, ordering our cakes from JHP, FBB and now...
We get our Baklava, specially made for us by the Preljevic's. Ms Minela Preljevic specifically.
The Preljevics are from Montenegro but they have lived in Malaysia for the longest time, running the show at that little Italian restaurant called Paradiso, in Taman Desa.
Minela is now a good friend of ours and sometimes we just swing by for a quick, easy dinner, hangout and chat with her. Her mum and dad use to be the main cooks at this place, but now, the business has passed on to their 3 daughters, Minela, Meena and Miza.

Anyway, the Baklava is not really for public consumption - more for family and friends and if you are lucky, sometimes you might walk in on them making a batch.. they actually invite you to try some;) .. anyway, now we know Minela, we custom order it from her and she makes us a handsome batch when the time or need arises, and believe me, we need!
Her baklava is thick, dense, sweet and packed with nuts.
Its pastry made of layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey packs a punch I find hard to resist. I make Cumi open our stash on the spot and feed me some right there in the deli.
He feeds himself some too, of course;)
The pizza here is good as well. Fuss free, affordable and you can ask for loads of extra cheese and tomato base, if you like.
If you are looking for 5 star fine italian dining, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a nice, warm, cozy interior with heartwarming company, service and food, then THIS is the place for you:)
Just down that same block is a really cute 100Yen Shop.
What's different about this shop is the dessert kiosk they have at the front.
You see that cute lil penguin? Well it churns our iced desserts not unlike the ice-kacang. Too bad we already pigged out on tiramisu, ice cream and baklava. Next time little penguin.. next time.

Oh.. The Baklava looks absolutely divine. Tried Baklava from the Uzbek guy that runs a stall at Mid Valley/Gardens LG1. Was a bit disappointed. But his dates with walnuts sandwiched in between was yummy.
Sounds like a very cosy place to hang out. As I usually finish work pretty late, I must call them up for the opening times.

been wanting to try this place for ages, but never found the chance. remember reading somewhere that they have another outlet in jalan alor ar?
I'm so gonna get my arse to paradiso soon. Hvnt gone there in ages. Btw, some other eateries there offer good food too. There a nice vegetarian place "Fan Chai Xiang" further down the street as well as a nice steamboat place at the other end from Paradiso.

My sister is going to be so happy. Good baklava in Malaysia! Even better, good baklava just 5 mins from my house! Always loved their pizzas. And their risotto funghi is sinfully buttery.
The iced desserts from Mr Penguin are really good. I like the milk one without topping. The shaved ice is so soft and fine, feels almost like snow. I think I'll go over for dessert tonight!

Thick, dense, sweet and nutty...who can resist that?? I'd go for cosy and comfy rather than 5 star fine dining! ;)

Nice one, would like to try this Italian restaurant out. Reminded me of Pizza Uno in Taipan.
Love shopping in the 100 yen shop. We've tried the ice-cream, not bad. ^^
Gosh the pizza, looks simple yet delicious! I think i would love the pepper with the pepperoni very much.
5-star dining is acquirable. Nice cozy and home-like feel however, is hard to come by.
Baklava one of my favourite Lebanese food. Lucky gal for being frens with owner, I am your fren too for that bite, please.

This baklava looks totally different than the baklava I had during my trip in Turkey. Interesting to try though :)

Baklava, sounds Hokkienlah. Lebanese or Montenegrin food? Malaysia is turning more and more cosmopolitan. I have a Bosnian as a classmate!

Btw that penguin churns out nothing but diabetic-inducing desserts. Sickeningly sweet. It's actially quite gross. There's one just across my office.
Heartwarming , nice homely baklava (it aint heavy sista ) evoking mesmerizing ever flowing sentiments worthy of another best new memory ( aka romancing da meat ) of the true essence of love, right ?
