Langkawi

The things I like best about Langkawi Island are..

Langkawi
That big, handsome eagle that watches over the Island at Dataran Lang/ Langkawi Eagle Square..

Langkawi1
The Cheap, cheap local food on every street corner...

Langkawi2
The cute booze displays in Kuah Town, alcohol haven...

Langkawi3
Did I say, the cheap, cheap booze in Kuah Town, alcohol haven;) ....

my shots
The fresh seafood ...

Langkawi9
The wide selection of food including Russian(!) at Harbour Park..

langkawi12
The newest of the 5star hotels - The Four Seasons (* this photo from here)

Langkawi4
Inspired by Alhambra Palace in Spain, with Moorish details in a Malay 'kampung' or village setting, with pavilions and villas blending Asian, Indian and Arabic influences...
.
.
.

Langkawi6

reflective of the natural surroundings, with neutral earth tones weaved within a textured setting of exotic woods, stones and fabrics ..
.
.
.
Langkawi5
swanky vibrant colors and modern pool tables, woven wooden screens, handcrafted hanging mirrors, bubble-gum coloured glass lamps,
.
.
.

Langkawi11

burnished steel light fittings, massive hanging bells with intricate motif and carvings, walking through the Four Seasons makes me feel like I am floating through an infinite dreamscape of a non-physical dimension.
.
.
.

Finally, the thing I like best about Langkawi is,

Langkawi7
my favourite hotel to stay at on Langkawi, though old.. the Datai..!

Langkawi8
I like the Datai for the simple fact that it reminds me of a silent retreat. Everything is constructed around an amphitheatre of virgin tropical rainforest whose resident birdlife and monkeys (cumi & ciki!) provide the only external intrusion! This place totally blends into its natural unspoilt surroundings.

There is a very long, deliberate walk to the beach, forcing you to appreciate the lush green hills even more. I like taking the slow walk to the beach barefoot.

Langkawi10

Last but not least, the thing I like best about Langkawi are its gorgeous sunsets.
Pink hues take over the sky at sunset and the only thing missing is a loved one...

...and those are the things, I like best about Langkawi Island!

What we hate about Langkawi is when you are heavenly sunrising-setting there and we are earthly-crouching here, in da backlanes scavenging...yet again
sigh

Hope there are more Langkawis around with an airstrip but then again.... But for modern denizens it is a must for the quick getaway.

Oh Gosh! You are back. I was kinda worried that you have been quiet for so long until FBB told me that you were not in town! Unfortunately the eagle was not Bald, or LL would be there in a jiffy.

Lovely pixs, and most importantly, a lovely holiday. Cheers!

I agree how they can do so much more in terms of arts, culture, everything else! Langkawi has sooo much potential and you can actually see it sinking into oblivion. Sad!

how much is the room at Datai? looks like the perfect chalet for me as well!
prefer this type of accomo, rather than the 5 stars bling-blings ...

This post make me wanna visit Langkawi again :-) One of the better island to stay in for short and long period. Enough to keep one entertained huh. Did you manage to locate the poolside of Four Seasons btw?

Your pics and montages are magnificent. This is not Langkawi and the neighbouring towns I heard of, so impressive. The last I have connection with this place is when my sis brought me The Loaf cake in a nice wrapped box from there 3weeks back. Must make my way there, just look at Four Seasons makes me green with envy.
